Bibliographic Data

Provision of shelf ready books, means enabling libraries to receipt and offer books for loan with the minimum of intervention.

Askews and Holts Library Services pioneered the use of industry standard data created by Bibliographic Data Services (BDS) and their subsidiary West 10. CIP records are provided up to 12 weeks in advance of publication, with enhanced ‘book in hand’ records being available upon invoicing of goods.

We can supply standard or bespoke records in both UK and MARC21 formats.

Our bibliographic records are loaded onto our database daily and held in MARC format. They are used to:

  • Populate our web catalogue and selection lists.
  • Confirm title details for customer orders.
  • Facilitate our book handling processes.
  • Provide catalogue records for libraries
  • Provide potential requirements files for acquisition systems.

Potential requirements files:

Depending on library specifications and the characteristics of library management systems, we can provide detailed or profiled records. These can be supplied to match the contents of our selection tools so that records can be called up when orders are placed.

Catalogue records:

These are created from the book to national and international standards. They can also be profiled to library requirements and are supplied to accompany library purchases.

Data Delivery Options:

We can send records, by via our website, e-mail or FTP.

Customised data services:

Our team of in-house system programmers and bibliographers have experience of working with libraries to provide customised data services.

Whatever your library data needs, Askews and Holts Library Services can provide a solution.
